Lawyers demand judicial probe

RAWALPINDI, July 12: Lawyers on Thursday demanded judicial probe by a Supreme Court judge into Lal Masjid operation that claimed several people’s life. The demand came at a general body meeting of Rawalpindi District Bar Association, which was chaired by President DBA Raja Khalid Ismail.

In the meeting, the speakers condemned the use of brute force against the students and staff of Jamia Hafsa and Lal Masjid that resulted in hundreds of casualties. It was decide in the meeting that following the decision of Punjab Bar Council a free legal aid commission would be set up for the people arrested from Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa. Many renowned lawyers offered their services.

The lawyers offered Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza for those killed during the operation. The lawyers offered separate funeral prayers for adult, boys and girls. The prayers were led by Zaffar Mehmood Mughal advocate who is also member of Punjab Bar Council.
