NTC receives review application

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, July 7: The National Tariff Commission (NTC) has received an application for reviewing the continuation of the anti-dumping duty imposed on dumped imports of flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel from South Africa.

The final dumping duty of 27.33 per cent was imposed on these products on July 22, 2002, for five years.

The period expires on July 21. This is going to be the first application for review of duty following the imposition of dumping duties in Pakistan.

The application was submitted with the NTC by local producer of tinplates, Siddiqsons Tin-Plate Limited.

The NTC initiated the review to determine whether the expiry of the anti-dumping duty imposed on tinplate would likely or unlikely lead to continuation or recurrence of dumping and injury.

However, the anti-dumping duty imposed on dumped imports of tinplate will remain in force pending outcome of the review. The review will be completed within 12 months of the issuance of the notice.

This application has been made following publication of a notice of impending expiry of the anti-dumping duty imposed on dumped imports of flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, of width of 600mm, plated or coated with tin of a thickness of less than 0.5mm produced by Iscor Limited, South Africa.
