Rally against university act

QUETTA, July 6: The Pakhtunkhwa Students Organisation has taken out a procession against the Balochistan University Model Act and alleged that it was aimed at depriving Pakhtun and Baloch students of educational facilities.

The protesters chanted slogans and assembled outside the press club on Friday. Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s parliamentary leader Abdur Rahim Ziaratwal, provincial president Usman Kakar, PSO central secretary Ahmed Jan and university unit president Kabir Afghan addressed them.

They claimed that university teachers and students had rejected the new act which had been implemented by the Vice Chancellor who was a retired army brigadier. They said that the university administration had increased the admission fee by 400 per cent and reduced the class strength in departments from 80 seats to 35.

They demanded the government to appoint an academic from the university as VC instead of a retired army official, annulment of the act and withdrawal of increases in fees and reduction of class admission seats. —Correspondent
