ISLAMABAD/KARACHI, July 1: A strong monsoon weather system is likely to cause widespread heavy rains in Sindh over the next four days and scattered rains have been forecast for Balochistan during the next two days.

According to the metrological department, the maximum intensity of rains in Sindh is expected from Tuesday morning to Wednesday night.

Heavy rains have been forecast for Balochistan from July 4 to 6, with the coastal areas more prone to widespread rains.

Strong moist monsoon currents are likely to cause widespread rains, at times heavy, in Punjab, Islamabad and catchment areas during the next three days.

Moderate-to-heavy rains are expected in Kashmir and in the earthquake-affected areas.

Saturday’s deep depression over central India remained stationary and weakened to a well-marked low-pressure area. It is likely to move towards southern Sindh. Normally such monsoon systems re-curve towards Punjab and catchment areas. But there was a high probability that the monsoon system would cross to the Arabian Sea and, after re-intensifying there, move along the Sindh-Balochistan coast, the met office said.

Meteorological Department Director-General Dr Qamaruz Zaman Chaudhry said the strong monsoon system might cause gusty winds accompanied by widespread heavy rains in Sindh.

He said maximum rainfall was likely in southern Balochistan, particularly its coastal areas.

In Karachi, the weather on Monday is expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of thunderstorm and rain.
