LAHORE, June 30: New Delhi has neither paid full compensation to the victims of the Feb 18 Samjhota Express blasts nor has it informed Islamabad about the outcome of the investigations, says Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmad.

“It is India’s responsibility to punish people involved in the Panipat tragedy,” he said at a news conference at the railways headquarters on Saturday.

Despite the tragedy, there has been no decrease in the number of passengers on the Samjhota Express, according to the minister. “People are unable to get tickets despite the addition of more coaches. But, we cannot increase the number of passengers on our own,” the minister said.

The minister said that no train had been cancelled despite heavy rains and all trains were operating normally.

“Even 50 to 60 freight trains are operating normally. Passengers are facing inconvenience because trains are unable to reach their destinations on time because of harsh weather,” the minister said.

According to the minister, traffic on the Quetta-Sibi section had also been restored and Quetta would be re-linked with the Taftan section in three weeks.
