ISLAMABAD, June 29: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has listed the items to be exempted from the levy of special excise duty (SED) of one per cent from July 1, 2007, according to a notification issued here on Friday.

The notification (SRO-655) said the items excluded from SED include vegetables, seeds, edible oil, POL products, natural gas/LPG, electric energy, phosphoric acid, pharmaceutical products, fertilisers, gold and silver, tin plate, computer hardware and bitumen, as well as items classified in Chapter 99 of Pakistan Customs Tariff.

Imported goods, for the time being, will also be exempt from the levy of SED.

Moreover, items on which sales tax is zero-rated shall also not be liable to SED.

The duty of one per cent, however, will be applicable to the import, as well as local manufacturing of those goods, which have been specified in the First Schedule to the Customs Act, 1969.
