MUZAFFARGARH, June 20: The Punjab government has decided to set up a National Testing Centre at the Government Girls’ College Muzaffargarh to facilitate the candidates of Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Layyah.

The candidates who want to take papers of entry tests for medical and engineering universities will avail from the society. The centre has been set up due to traffic jams at Chenab Bridge where most of the time traffic is jammed for many hours.

This was said by Munneza Baloch, principal of the Muzaffargarh Government Degree Girls’ College. She said the establishment of the centre was a good move because the candidates of professional colleges had to go to Multan for such entrance test a day before the test date because of traffic jams at the River Chenab Bridge.

The bridge is notorious for hours-long traffic jams and many patients who are referred to Nishtar Hospitalin Multan from Muzaffargarh, DG Khan and Rajanpur have died at this point because of traffic jams.

Ms Baloch said the government’s decision would benefit 1,100 students this year.

She said the Punjab government had allocated Rs14.7 million for the college and the college had been declared a model college. She said 500 new chairs had been bought for the students and repair of college hostels and classrooms had begun. She said the government had provided electric water coolers and a filtration plant for the college.

The contract for the construction and repair of classrooms and hostels has been given to the NLC which will complete the construction within six months. She said that under the Chief Minister’s Education Reforms Programme new buses for pick and drop of students will be given to the college. She said these measures will help the college improve standards of learning.
