KARACHI, June 20: The Sindh Labour Department has chalked out a comprehensive plan for vocational and technical training and provision of jobs to prisoners after their release. The proposal has been sent to the government for approval, according to the labour department’s statement issued on Wednesday.

Around 11,000 prisoners would be offered 16 different courses, including information technology, construction, farming, hair dressing and textile, so that after their release they could become productive members of society. The Rs27.6 million project, expected to be implemented from the next year, would be completed in one year.

Under the pilot project, 2,800 prisoners will be offered three-month courses in two jails of Karachi and one each of Hyderabad and Sukkur.—APP
