Tribal chiefs meet in Jacobabad

JACOBABAD, June 12: A meeting of tribal chiefs held at Adam Khan Sarai here on Monday sought the settlement of ongoing tribal disputes in Shikarpur district.

Sindh ministers Manzoor Khan Panhwar and Dr Sohrab Sarki, DPO Munir Ahmed Khuhro and tribal elders Sardar Ibrahim Jatoi, Sardar Babal Khan Jakhrani, Sardar Muqeem Khan Khoso, Arif Khan Mahar, Sardar Khadim Jatoi, Nawab Suleman Khan Chandio, Sardar Rahim Bux Khan Jafri, Moulana Bakhtullah Pahore and Najaf Ali Khan Kamario attended the meeting held under heavy security.

The participants discussed various aspects of the disputes. Representative of the Qambrani tribe, Deol Khan Qambrani, and Mohammad Nawaz of the Marfani tribe proposed the holding of a jirga for the settlement of disputes on permanent basis.

The meeting announced a ceasefire till the holding of the jirga and warned the tribal elders against violating the decision. The feud between Qambrani and Marfani tribes has claimed 109 lives.

KILLED: One person was killed and another injured in Oghai mohalla in the jurisdiction of Ghouspur police station over an old enmity on Tuesday.

According to police, Ali Mohammad and Hafizullah Oghai were on their way home when three armed men opened fire on them, killing Ali Mohammad on the spot. Hafizullah got bullet injuries and was taken to the Kandhkot hospital.

No FIR was lodged till the filing of this report.
