PESHAWAR, June 12: The ongoing heatwave has resulted in increasing incidents of disruption of electricity supply, both through loadshedding and breakdowns, in the provincial capital, multiplying the miseries of the people.

The duration of loadshedding varies in different parts of the city but the rural areas are the worst hit.

People in Hazarkhwani, Badbher, Acheni, Kohat Road, Warsak Road, Dalazak Road, Pakha Ghulam, Samar Bagh, Garhi Baloch, Pahari Pura, Duran Pur and Charsadda Road complained that they faced loadshedding of four to six hours daily.

Loadshedding of two to three hours daily is imposed in the interior city, Sethy Town, Faqir Abad, Saddar, Hayatabad and University Road.

Power breakdowns have badly affected life of people, particularly in the urban areas, as it has also hit water supply.

The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) is of the view that the scorching heat has excessively increased the use of electricity, adding to the load on the power distribution system throughout the province.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, a Pesco spokesman said the company had decided to revise the ‘load-management schedule’ on a weekly basis. He said the programme consisted of one to three intervals of half an hour and one hour duration in 24 hours.

He said the consumers could get information about the revised schedule from the company.

The spokesman asked the consumers to avoid excessive use of electricity.
