MEMPHIS (Tennessee), June 11: American Woody Austin fired a sizzling final round eight-under-par 62 to win the St Jude Championship by five shots on Sunday.

Austin was fourth heading into the final day and trailed the third-round leader, Australia's Adam Scott, by four shots in the $6 million event.

Scott faltered badly with a final round 75 as Austin posted the best round of the day to win with a 13-under, 267 total.

Britain's Brian Davis fired a final round of 66 to finish second at eight-under with David Toms (69) one shot behind him in third and Brian Gay (70) in fourth a further shot back.

Austin had a two-over 72 in the opening round but did not record a bogey in the final 49 holes and posted the lowest final round score by any tournament winner so far this year.

While Austin was cruising around the course with a 30 on the back nine to record his third PGA Tour victory, and first since the Buick Championship in August, 2004, Scott struggled badly.

While Austin started the final round par-birdie-eagle, Scott surrendered a three-shot overnight lead early before birdies at the 11th and 12th saw him tie Austin atop the leaderboard.

Scott then bogeyed the 13th hole followed by a triple-bogey on the 14th. He was six-over for the final six holes, finishing nine shots behind Austin at 276 and alone in seventh place.

It was the final PGA Tour event before this week's US Open, which Austin will now enter with great confidence after earning a first prize of $1.08 million.
