New reference against CJ Iftikhar ready Islamabad, June 10, (REUTERS) - Pakistan's government has prepared a new misconduct complaint against the suspended chief judge Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, law minister Wasi Zafar said Sunday. He said the government had prepared a new complaint, known as a reference, against Chaudhry for activities deemed a violation of a top judge's code of conduct. “It has been drafted ... and will have to be filed at an appropriate time,” Zafar told Reuters, without giving details. (Posted @ 21:58 PST) Van falls off mountain road in northwestern Pakistan, at least 12 killed ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 10 (AP) - A van carrying passengers to the town of Chitral, the famed mountain tourist resort, veered off a road in Malakand area in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, killing at least 12 people and injuring six others, police officer Mohibullah Khan said. The van skidded off an under-construction section of the road and fell into the ravine, he said. A security official near the scene of the crash said rescuers were trying to remove the bodies from the wreckage. The van was heading to the town of Chitral, near the border with Afghanistan, from Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, Khan said. It was not known how many people were in the van. (Posted @ 10:32 PST) 47 suspected Taliban, 2 policemen killed in Afghan clashes Kabul, June 10, (AP) - A battle between police and Taliban killed 20 suspected militants and two policemen in northwestern Afghanistan, while airstrikes and clashes left another 27 militants dead in the south, officials said Sunday. Militants attacked three separate police posts Saturday in the Murghab district of Badghis province, said provincial police chief Gen. Mohammad Ayub Naizyar. Police repelled the attack and sent reinforcements to the area, forcing the militants to withdraw, Naizyar said. Karzai survives apparent assassination attempt by Taliban Kabul, June 10, (AP) - Taliban militants fired rockets near President Hamid Karzai in an apparent assassination attempt in central Afghanistan on Sunday, but the missiles fell far from their target and no one was hurt, officials and witnesses said. Karzai was giving a speech to the elders and residents of Andar district in Ghazni province when rockets were fired nearby, said Ali Shah Ahmadzai, provincial police chief. No one was wounded in the attack, he said. Witnesses said they heard between three and six rockets, but the Taliban claimed it fired off 12. In most parts of the country the temperature has been in closed to 50 C. The present heat wave is likely to persist for another four to five days at least, Met officials said. The problem has aggravated on account of power outage and load shedding besides acute shortage of water.
