CP denies foul play in aircraft deal

KARACHI, June 8: Cathay Pacific (CP) said in a statement that it has taken legal advice in the matter regarding NAB’s investigation into the lease and sale by the CP of six Boeing 747 300 to PIA.

CP said it had acted correctly in the lease and sale of the aircraft in question and that payments made to its then representative in Pakistan were proper and were made pursuant to contractual obligations.

CP knows nothing of payments allegedly made to others by the then representative, nor why such alleged payments should have been made, says a CP press release.

The company said the aircraft in question were in good condition as they had been refurbished prior to being leased to PIA and had, to the company’s knowledge, been in service with PIA ever since and continue to be so.
