MIRPURKHAS, June 7: A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Umerkot on Wednesday after the body of a slain rickshaw driver was found on Ratno Road. Traffic remained suspended for five hours and aerial firing was reported in the city.

Unidentified assailants picked up Abdul Rehman, 17, son of Jumo Rahimoon, on Wednesday night. His body was found on Thursday morning and taken to Umerkot Civil Hospital for autopsy. The news of his murder spread like wild fire in Umerkot. On the call of the Citizens Action Committee, markets and shopping centres were closed.

Several dozen people pelted stones on vehicles, causing suspension of traffic on Umerkot-Mirpurkhas road and other routes. Armed men resorted to aerial firing.

A police mobile came under attack at Allahwala Chowk in which four policemen received injuries.
