SHC issues notices to Altaf, Arbab

KARACHI, June 1: The Sindh High Court on Friday issued notices to MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Rahim, Home Affairs Adviser Waseem Akhtar and seven others in two contempt applications, and set July 3 for hearing.

The notices were issued in the two applications which came up before a seven-member bench conducting suo motu proceedings into the May 12 Karachi incidents.

The bench also heard Advocate Khalid Anwer on the role of the police force.

Qazi Faez Isa, the other amicus curiae, proposed that the federal and provincial governments should be arrayed as respondents in the proceedings.

The bench said that its main objective was to ascertain responsibility for violation of law on May 12. The purpose was to suggest remedial measures for the future.
