Singapore exports fall

SINGAPORE, May 17: Singapore's key exports fell 0.4 per cent in April against industry expectations for a rise, dragged down by a sharp decline in electronics shipments, the government said on Thursday.

The decline in non-oil domestic exports (NODX), worth in total $13.31 billion, was due to an 11.6 per cent year-on-year plunge in electronics shipments, International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) said.

The fall in electronics exports was the third straight monthly decline and outstripped the 9.7 per cent gain in non-electronic shipments, the trade promotion agency said.

“NODX contracted marginally by 0.4 per cent in April ... because growth of non-electronic NODX was offset by a continued decline in electronic exports,” IE Singapore said in its monthly report.—AFP
