Iran win two golds at Asian Wrestling Championships

BISHKEK (Kyrgyzstan), May 12: Iran won two gold medals in the men's Greco-Roman events at the Asian Wrestling Championships on Saturday.

Two-time world champion Hamid Soryan Reihanpour defeated Cha Kwan Su of North Korea 3-3, 3-0, 2-0 in the 55-kilogram category, while Saman Tahmasebi won his first major title with a victory over Cho Hyu-Chul of South Korea 1-1, 3-0 in the 84-kilogram division.

In the 66-kilogram class, Kanat Begaliev of Kyrgyzstan ousted the Athens Olympics champion Jang Ji-Hyun of South Korea 2-0, 1-2 for his first career championship title.

“It was a tough and even bout,” said Begaliev, the 2006 world silver medalist. “I think the support from the home crowd has helped me to beat the Olympic champion.”

China's Liu Deli beat Mehdi Chesmatiazar Sharabaiani of Iran 1-1, 2-1, 1-1 in the heavyweight 120-kilogram division.—AP
