KARACHI, May 12: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that provincial government was mulling over strict measures to contain the prevailing situation of lawlessness.

Talking to journalists on Saturday, he said that a ban on rallies and gatherings would constitute part of such measures.

He said the government had taken all positive steps to maintain law and order in the city, but it was understood that such events were hard to handle.

In reply to a question, he said that his government did its best to persuade organisers of the rallies to postpone their events but while MQM insisted on its political right, the opposition parties, which were using CJ as their political ploy against the government, did the same.

He agreed that there had been numerous casualties but said he had no idea about the exact toll so far.—Online
