ISLAMABAD, May 11: Security at the Islamabad International Airport has been put on “high alert” following intelligence reports that some troublemakers could create law and order situation on the eve of departure of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to Karachi on Saturday, official source said.

Besides putting the Airport Security Force (ASF) on high alert, entry of vehicles into the airport premises has been restricted and movement of passengers and visitors are being watched strictly.

As part of the security high alert, the duty hours of the security staff have been extended. When a security force official was contacted, he admitted that the state of alert has been ordered at Islamabad airport in the wake of departure of the chief justice. Protocol flight passes have also been suspended, a senior security official said.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry is scheduled to leave for Karachi on PIA flight PK-301 on Saturday. The Chief Justice is expected to come back to Islamabad on PK-308 on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, In order to maintain security and regulate traffic in the federal capital during the ruling party’s rally being held on May 12, the district administration has made elaborate arrangements and deployed more than 20,500 security personnel.

A security official said about 10,000 troops of Punjab police and sufficient number of Special Branch officials have reached Islamabad to join the 7,000 ICT police to maintain law and order on Saturday. As many as 3,600 rangers, who have already arrived in Islamabad, will be deployed at sensitive installations.
