KARACHI, May 2: Sindh Minister for Local Government, Katchi Abadis and Spatial Development, Muhammad Hussain Khan, has said development activities at an accelerated pace are necessary to overcome the lapses of previous years.
He was addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of Boys Polytechnic Institute in Surjani Town on Wednesday. City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal was also present.
The minister said the previous government had only concentrated on unveiling plaques and cutting ribbons of development project, which never started on ground. During the last four years, he said, Rs500 million worth development work was completed in water, sanitation, education, health and road sectors.
The minister said Boys Polytechnic Institute would be completed in two years at a cost of Rs84.896 million and would have the facility of chemical and mechanical technologies.
He assured the residents that after completion of degree colleges and polytechnics, teachers’ training centre would also be established in Surjani.
City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal said the rulers believed in the philosophy of realism and action. “We believe in action rather than words and development works worth billions of rupees are ample proof of our commitment to the masses,” he added.
He said the city government was now giving priority to water and sanitation and in this regard development schemes of Rs17 billion were under execution.
He said uplift works in the last 16 months were far more than the projects of past 59 years.—PPI
