PESHAWAR, April 20: Lawyers and mainstream political parties are set to organise a big welcome for Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, who is scheduled to administer oath to the newly-elected office-bearers of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association on Saturday.

Significantly, Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court Justice Tariq Pervez will receive Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry.

“Chief Justice Tariq Pervez will receive Justice Iftikhar at the high court. But it has not been confirmed that he (Justice Pervez) and other judges will attend the ceremony,” Babar Ali Khan, secretary to the Chief Justice of the PHC told this correspondent.

Justice Tariq Pervez and Provincial Police Officer Sharif Virk inspected the venue on Friday and reviewed the arrangements being made for the function.

Lawyers and workers of various political parties will receive the Supreme Court’s Chief Justice at Khairabad, the entry point to the NWFP and would be driven in a vehicular procession to high court’s building in Peshawar.

Mainstream political parties, including the Awami National Party, the Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and Pakistan People’s Party have announced to receive SC Chief Justice Chaudhry and attending the gathering.

The Jamaat had announced to stage a rally from Jinnah Park.

NWFP Law Minister Malik Zafar Azam said that provincial ministers could attend the Chief Justice’s function, but in their personal capacity.

Political parties have ordered their workers to set up reception camps at Jehangira, Akora Khattak, Nowshera and other places on the Grand Trunk Road to welcome Justice Iftikhar’s arrival. Members of different bar associations from across the province had been invited to attend the function.
