The division bench comprising Justice Muhammad Afzal Soomro and Justice Rahmat Hussain Jaffery gave these directions on an application of Shaikh Aslam, brother of Shaikh Adil, a convict in US journalist Daniel Pearl murder case. It also issued notice to AG Sindh for date in office.

Omer Sheikh was sentenced to death on charges of kidnapping and killing US journalist Daniel Pearl.

His three accomplices Fahad Naseem, Syed Salman Saqib and Sheikh Mohammad Adil were sentenced to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs500,000 each by ATC Hyderabad on July 15, 2002.

Shaikh Aslam submitted that he met his brother on March 27, 2007, in Hyderabad Prison and found him severely injured. Adil told him that the previous day he was tortured by Deputy Jail Superintendents Naim Ghori, Aslam Shaikh and other jail officials.

He prayed court to take stern action against jail authorities and direct officials concerned to lodge FIR against them. It was also prayed that Shaikh Adil be provided proper medical treatment besides examination by medical board.

After preliminary hearing, the bench issued notice and adjourned the matter to date in office.—PPI
