KARACHI, March 29: Panic gripped residents when parts of Clifton were shaken by tremors on Thursday night. Met office said the epicentre of the tremors, which occurred at around 7:27pm, could not be ascertained as its intensity was “low and mild”. The mild earthquake measured 2 on the Richter scale.

A large number of people, including women and children, came out of their houses, most of them reciting Quranic verses, as parts of the area, mainly Sea View apartments and adjoining neighbourhoods, were jolted.

Meteorologist at Peshawar Met Office, Imtiaz Ahmed, told Dawn the intensity of the earthquake was so low that it was not recorded at seismic centres in Peshawar, Quetta or Islamabad.

Panicked people carrying their personal belongings stayed away from their houses and flats for some time and calmed each other to get over the shock.
