UN chief urges Iran to return to talks UNITED NATIONS, March 25 (APP/AFP) - UN chief Ban Ki-moon on Sunday urged Iran to return to talks, after the UN Security Council imposed fresh sanctions on the Islamic republic over its controversial nuclear program. The secretary general called on Iran “to urgently take the necessary steps to restore the international community's trust that its nuclear program is peaceful in nature,” a statement from his office said. Addressing a news conference here Sunday, he said Justice Baghwandas has taken the oath of Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan and now misperceptions should be removed. He said all the stakeholders would present their views at the proceedings of Supreme Judicial Council and its all decisions should be accepted. The Prime Minister said the Supreme Judicial Council is a constitutional institute. The proposals are still in their early stages, said advisers Yasser Abed Rabbo and Saeb Erekat. One idea is to appoint a committee at next week's Arab Summit in Saudi Arabia, the aides said. It has a strike-range of 20 to 80 kilometres and can travel at twice the speed of sound, defence sources said. The single-stage solid-fuel missile can carry a 15 kilogram conventional warhead, they said. The test comes three days after neighbouring Pakistan test-fired a nuclear-capable radar-dodging cruise missile with a range of 700 kilometres The neighbours have routinely conducted missile tests since carrying out tit-for-tat nuclear detonations in May 1998. More than 100 dead in latest Congo unrest KINSHASA, March 25, (AFP) More than 100 people died in clashes between the army in the Democratic Republic of Congo and forces of former vice president Jean-Pierre Bemba on Thursday and Friday, humanitarian sources said Sunday. The Catholic charity Caritas said 79 bodies had been counted at the general hospital in Kinshasa, 20 at the Kintambo hospital, six at the Ngaliema clinic and two at St Joseph hospital. In the four main hospitals in the capital, the charity reported 148 people were seriously wounded. The quake toppled buildings, triggered landslides, cut power, interfered with phone service, broke water mains and snarled public transportation. Television footage of the quake showed buildings shaking violently for about 30 seconds.
