KARACHI, March 24: One of the four fishermen, picked up by the fisheries department officials while they were fishing in the sea near Rehri, succumbed to his wounds.

A press release issued by Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum said the fisheries department staff chased a boat found using illegal nets and held Hamza, Bashir, Siddiq and Hameed.

The PFF alleged that the arrested fishermen were brutally beaten and handed over to police. Hamza succumbed to his injuries. When his body was brought to his village, fishermen gathered there to protest against the fisheries staff.—Staff Reporter
