KARACHI, March 12: Peshawar Panthers lifted the ABN-Amro One-day Gold League Cup after trouncing Sialkot Stallions by eight wickets in an one-sided final at the National Stadium here on Monday.
Put into bat, the Stallions crashed to 137 all out in the 28th over after being 103 for three in the 17th over at one stage. Opener Atiq-ur-Rehman was their main run-getter with a 43-ball 42 which included six fours and one six.
Former Test off-spinner Arshad Khan, the Panthers skipper, produced a superb spell of three for 18 in 7.4 overs. He was named Man-of-the-Match. Slow left-armer Zohaib Khan also picked three wickets while giving away 31 runs in six overs.
Yasir Hameed, who was not considered for the World Cup in the Wes Indies, came good after a string of low scores. The opener hit an unbeaten 73 off 105 deliveries with the aid of four fours and three sixes as the Panthers romped home by making 138 for two in the 36th over.
The Panthers received the winners’ prize-money of Rs250,000 while the Stallions got Rs125,000. Among individual awards, each worth Rs25,000, Karachi Zebras’ Khurram Manzoor was declared the tournament’s best batsman for scoring 441 runs.
Khurram and Khalid Latif of Karachi Dolphins shared the best fielder prize with 10 catches apiece. Zohaib Khan was adjudged the best bowler after picking up 21 wickets while Humayun Farhat of Lahore Eagles won the best wicket-keeper award with 14 dismissals (12 catches and two stumpings).
