GUJRANWALA, March 12: A primary school for girls which had been constructed some 11 years ago by the government in Naushera Virkan tehsil, could not start functioning by now.
A group of villagers told this correspondent that the school had been constructed at Aslam Shaheednagar Dera Jammun Dharo in 1996 at a cost of Rs750,000. But the education department could not introduce classes.
Villagers have demanded introduction of classes at the earliest. When contacted executive district officer (education) Raja Khadim Husain said classes would be started soon following appointment of teaching staff and provision of furniture.
NO GAS SUPPLY: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has completely banned issuance of urgent connections and stopped implementation on under-process cases.
An SNGPL source said hundreds of gas supply cases had been lying pending with regional offices for the last several years while people were getting connections on an urgent basis after depositing double fee due to an inordinate delay in issuance of connections with single fee.
When contacted, the regional manager of the company said gas connections would be issued on merit now.
Iranian envoy: Commercial counsel of Iran Mohsin Pakperwar visited an industrial exhibition where made in Gujranwala products were on display here on Monday.
He appreciated the quality of products and said that these items could be made popular in Iran through better marketing facilities.
Mr Pakperwar suggested that value of these products could further be improved by using latest technology.
Planning commission deputy chairman Dr Akram Sheikh and others also visited the industrial exhibition and praised the quality and durability of products.
Earlier, Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Rana Shehzad Hafiz and other office-bearers welcomed the guests at the exhibition.
