Transporters warn of strike on CJ issue

PESHAWAR, March 12: The Sarhad Transport Association on Monday warned that a strike would be mounted across the province if Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry was not restored to his original high position soon.

The association of transporters set a 24-hour deadline for restoration of the suspended Chief Justice to his position, adding that Justice Iftikhar had been punished due to his judgment on the Pakistan Steel Mills’ case.

The transporters observed that the way Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was treated amounted to controlling the judiciary.

Addressing protesters in front of the Peshawar Press Club, president of the Sarhad Transport Association Jehangir Afridi, president Local Transport Association Fayaz Khan, and president Rickshaw Drivers Association Murad Khan said the government was not happy with the decision taken by the Chief Justice in important cases.—PPI
