BADIN, March 12: The Coastal Action Committee organised a rally here on Monday to protest against the ban on Al-Rashid Trust and seizure of its bank accounts. The protestors, led by Ashfaq Memon, Moulana Fateh Mohammad Mehri and Abdullah Sindhi, marched from Al-Qatar Masjid and reached Kazia Wah Bridge where they staged a sit-in. They also raised slogans against the government.
Speaking on the occasion, Moulana Mohammad said that in 2003, the trust had provided aid to rain victims in Badin. He said that the government's action was unjust and demanded lifting of the ban.
Later, the protesters burnt effigies of President Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair.
RAIN: Moderate rain with winds lashed Badin and its coastal areas disrupting harvesting of sugarcane. Cane growers have stopped the supplies to mills after the route to fields came under rainwater.
When contacted, DCO Badin Agha Safdar Ali said that no loss to crops was reported from anywhere.
Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds: Rainfall continued on Monday causing inundation of low-lying areas, while a big part of the city remained without power for 16 hours.
Rain continued the whole night thus accumulating water on main roads and streets causing difficulties to citizens. Power breakdown occurred in Hirabad sub-division including Hameedpura, Jamnadas, Nawab, Malhi, Gulshan-i-Rehmania, Rajar and Yasrab colonies, Murtaza and Model towns, Narejo Para, Hirabad, Mir Ka Plot etc for 16 hours. Water supply was also disrupted.
