PESHAWAR, March 11: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that the provincial government has provided 50 per cent of the agreed resources for the proposed natural gas supply project for six southern districts of the province.

The chief minister was attending a briefing on the progress, difficulties and problems in the execution of the gas supply project to the southern districts, an official statement on Sunday said, adding that the briefing was given by the general manager of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) at the Frontier House.

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman was also present on the occasion.

The chief minister, criticising the delay in executing the project, said that it was creating doubts about government’s intention, and directed early completion of the project.

He regretted that there was no shortage of pipelines for projects in the rest of the country, but in the case of the NWFP unavailability of pipelines and other excuses were being made to keep people of the province deprived of basis necessities.

He directed the officials concerned to remove obstacles and complete the project at the earliest.

He said: “Being public representatives, we are answerable to the masses and it is our duty to serve them in accordance with their aspirations.”
