Rickshaws banned in Abbottabad

Published March 8, 2007

ABBOTTABAD, March 7: The Abbottabad tehsil municipal administration and cantonment board have banned entry of rickshaws in their jurisdiction for an indefinite period, jeopardising the government’s move to launch the vehicle as public transport under the president’s loan scheme for youth.

Tehsil Nazim Saifullah Khan Jadoon and other elected representatives met the Hazara region police chief to discuss the city’s traffic problems and demanded removal of all illegal pick-up and van stands.

The National Bank, under the president’s loan scheme, is providing financial assistance for rickshaws, on which different quarters have raised objections that it would increase the traffic problems and pollution.
