ISLAMABAD, Feb 28: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has urged the government to build an expo centre in the federal capital to promote the export of quality products.

ICCI President Nasir Khan in a statement issued here on Wednesday said that the exhibition centre should be established on the pattern of expo centres already built in Lahore and Karachi.

The chamber is also establishing its own export display centre, which would be completed in the near future, he added.

Commenting on the draft rules of the trade organisations, the ICCI leader said the condition of sales tax registration for membership should be withdrawn as some companies do not require sales tax registration.

It was urged that the tenure of executive body of a trade organisation should be for three years instead of one year as proposed in the new rules.

Mr. Nasir also suggested that a new industrial estate should be established in the capital as no land was available for setting up new industries. He said the new estate would provide great opportunities for foreign investment and help in generating employment in the region.
