Preparations for 11th SAG to kick-off soon: PSB convenes meeting

By A Sports Correspondent

KARACHI, Feb 21: Pakistan’s preparations for the next year’s 11th South Asian Games (SAG) which are being held at Dhaka (Bangladesh), kicks off in the near future under the aegis of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

In this connection, a meeting has been convened in the conference room of PSB in Islamabad on Feb 27 aimed at working out its modalities.

The PSB has invited secretaries of 16 National sports federations in the meeting which is expected to finalise matters concerning the regional spectacle.

Among other things, the meeting will chalk out details pertaining to strength of camp trainees and coaches, venues for camps, equipments and related facilities and requirement of foreign coaches, if needed.

The concerned secretaries have been asked to carry calendar of activities for 2007-08 and details of training schedule up to the games.

The federations who have been invited include athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, judo, kabaddi, karate, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tae kwondo, volleyball, weight lifting, wrestling and wushu.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan returned with 158 medals – 43 gold, 44 silver and 71 bronze - from the 10th SAG held at Colombo last year. Pakistan’s arch rivals India, as expected, reigned supreme with a haul of 118 gold, 69 silver and 47 bronze.
