KOHAT, Feb 20: Women councillors belonging to the Awami National Party staged a walkout in the district council in protest against non-provision of funds announced by the provincial president of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League, Amir Muqam, during election rallies held in Kohat.
Musarat Shafi advocate led the protesting councillors.
The meeting held in the KDA hall on Tuesday was presided over by convener Arif advocate.
Ms Shafi criticised the PML leader for allegedly befooling the people by announcing unrealistic schemes worth billion of rupees in the province.
She demanded that funds amounting to Rs12 million approved by the minister for mega projects last year should immediately be released.
She said that Mr Muqam had promised more funds during meetings with delegations from Kohat over the past couple of years but so far not a single penny had been released.
The women members were joined by male members of the council in their support, but later some nazims from the ruling Muslim League brought them back to the house and promised to raise the issue at the concerned level.
Gumbat Nazim Shakeel Haider staged a solo walkout in protest against the alleged meddling of the provincial government in the district affairs in violation of the local government ordinance.
The meeting passed 16 resolutions pertaining to replacement of old water supply pipelines, health, education, streetlights and repair of roads.
