KARACHI, Feb 20: The combined opposition on Tuesday requisitioned the Sindh Assembly session to discuss the worsening law and order situation and attacks on party leaders and workers during the February 10 by-election on a National Assembly and a provincial assembly seat in Sindh.

Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro told Dawn that 46 opposition MPAs had signed the requisition, which was submitted with the assembly secretariat.

On Monday, Speaker Muzaffar Hussain Shah prorogued the assembly session for an indefinite period after administering the oath to Mujeeb Shah Jillani of the PML-Q and Dr Shankar Lal of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, “we wanted to raise the issue of attacks and atrocities on PPP legislators and workers during the by-election in Monday’s session of the Sindh Assembly but we were disallowed and the house was prorogued,” he added.

The opposition including legislators of PPP-Parliamentarians and Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) want to discuss the worsening law and order situation, price hike, and the gang rape in Ubauro, besides allegations of rigging in the by-elections.

According to rules, the Speaker is required to summon the session within 14 days of receiving the opposition’s requisition.
