Sri Lanka fined for slow over rate
DUBAI, Feb 12: Sri Lanka were on Monday fined by cricket's governing body, the ICC, for maintaining a slow over rate during the thrilling five-run victory over India in the second One-day International in Rajkot.
During Sunday's match, Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene's side “was ruled to be two overs short of its target at the scheduled finish of the India innings when time allowances were taken into considerations”.
“In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount,” the ICC said in a statement.
“As such, Jayawardene has been fined 20 percent of his match fee while his players have each received 10 per cent fines.”—AFP
