Funds for TOD meters released

LAHORE, Feb 12: The government has released the third installment of Rs95 million to Wapda for free installation of TOD meters on agriculture tubewells for the supply of cheap electricity to farmers, says a handout.

Punjab Power Minister Armaghan Subhani said this at a meeting here on Monday.

The minister said installation of these meters would help farmers achieve the ‘Green Punjab’ target, and urged them to avail the facility and replace their old meters with new ones.

He said 67,075 meters had been installed in the province so — 16,776 in Lahore, 7,462 in Gujranwala, 22,173 in Faisalabad, 3,246 in Islamabad and 17,418 in Multan.

Mr Subhani said TOD were special quality meters which adjusted the reading automatically according to the time involved.

He said with the help of this facility, farmers would be able to save Rs20,000 to Rs90,000 annually.

The government was changing the meters without any additional cost, and no official was allowed to ask for any charges in this regard.

He said development of the agriculture sector had always been the priority of the government.
