Moderate 4.5 magnitude quake shakes central New Zealand; no injuries, damage WELLINGTON, New Zealand, Feb 27 (AP) A moderate 4.5 magnitude earthquake shook central New Zealand Tuesday, but emergency services said there were no immediate reports of injury or damage. The temblor gently swayed high-rise buildings in the capital, Wellington, when it hit at 11:48 a.m. local time, seismological agency GNS Science said. Located 40 kilometers northwest of Wellington at a depth of 110 kilometers, it was ''felt in the Wellington, Nelson and Marlborough regions'' of central New Zealand. Bush warned his Democratic opponents Monday that he will fight any attempt to use the debate on war funding to undercut his controversial troop “surge” in Iraq. Speaking to a gathering of US state governors at the White House, Bush said he expected a “healthy debate” on the war but said he was concerned about any move by Congress to limit funding. While House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday she supports legislation to redefine U.S. troops' mission in Iraq away from combat and focus it on training Iraqi soldiers and thwarting terrorism, an idea that is circulating among Senate Democrats. “I do support the idea of 'the authorization could be more focused,'” she said. (Posted @ 09:25 PST) Majority in U.S. want troop deadline in Iraq-poll WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (Reuters) A narrow majority of Americans now favour setting a deadline for the withdrawal of U.S. forces in Iraq and a record number say they disapprove of the war, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll released Monday. Fifty-six percent say U.S. forces should be withdrawn eventually even if civil order has not been restored in Iraq. Fifty-three percent support setting a date for withdrawing U.S. forces from Iraq. The poll found that 64 percent of Americans now say the war in Iraq was not worth fighting, while two-thirds of Americans oppose President George W. Japan plans to host 4-way meeting on Mideast peace TOKYO, Feb 27 (Reuters) Japan is planning to host a meeting with Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian officials next month to help broker peace in the Middle East, Foreign Minister Taro Aso said Tuesday. “We haven't solidified plans, but we are trying to arrange it for March 14,” Aso told a news conference. (Posted @ 09:00 PST) Nepal bus rolls down mountainside, 13 killed KATHMANDU, Feb 27 (Reuters) A bus, with about 45 passengers on board, veered off a mountain road in western Nepal Tuesday and crashed into a riverbank, killing at least 13 people, police said. The accident took place at Kurenghat, 50 km west of Kathmandu. The bus fell 150 metres before crashing into the banks of the Trishuli river.
