KARACHI, Feb 1: Residents of various localities across the city suffered intermittent and prolonged power outages here on Thursday due to what the Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation officials claimed to be maintenance work.
In Clifton, the worst-hit area was Zamzama, where the people suffered prolonged power failures. The residents complained that power remained suspended since morning till night, which made their lives miserable, saying that besides other difficulties they could not fill water into the overhead tanks.
Complaints of power suspension were also received form Defence, Dr Ziauddin Ahmad road, Khyaban-i-Iqbal, Site and other blocks of Clifton.
A KESC spokesman, when contacted, said that the utility had initiated maintenance work across the city to complete the renovation work till April. About the prolonged power suspension in Zamzama, the spokesman said it was a compulsion as some 15 PMTs had to be upgraded, which could not be done during short power suspensions. “Power supply had to be restored till 5pm, but the main trolley had stuck, which delayed the process of restoration,” the spokesman said.
