KARACHI: Main Ashura procession concludes peacefully


KARACHI, Jan 31: The main Ashura procession culminated at Imambargah Husainian Iranian here on Tuesday peacefully after passing through its designated route. The procession, led by scouts, started from Nishtar Park after a majlis where Salman Turrabi highlighted the importance of the grand sacrifice offered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala.

Earlier, various small processions taken out by mourners from different parts of the city, also reached Nishtar Park and converged into the main procession.

The participants of the main procession offered Zuhrain prayers at Imambargah Ali Raza. Sheikh Syed Hassan Salahuddin led the prayers.

Acting City Nazim Nasreen Jalil also joined the procession for some time after Zohr prayers.

People had installed sabeels on both sides of the main route of procession on M. A. Jinnah Road, offering food, drinks to mourners.

Mourners were carrying alams, reciting nauhas and mersiyahs depicting the hardship faced by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala. The procession included Zuljanah and Tazia.

Heavy contingents of rangers and police were deployed on the route to provide security, while senior police officials were walking alongside the procession.

Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad took an aerial view of the city in a helicopter to the monitor law and order on Ashura. Home Adviser, IGP and CCPO accompanied him.

Various wings of the City District Government Karachi, the city police, the rangers, welfare organisations and other bodies had made special arrangements to help the mourners in the Ashura procession. — APP
