Ketma Amerssissa wins Lahore marathon LAHORE, Jan 14 (APP)- Ethiopian runners re-established their supremacy as the power house of world class marathons as Ketma Amerssissa and Merima Danboban won the men and women 42 kilometre events of the third Lahore international marathon here on Sunday. Ketma put up an impressive performance, covering the 42 kilometre hectic run in 2:15:26 while Merima returned a timing 2:32:54, both receiving a cash prize of US dollars 15000 each. President, General Pervez Musharraf inaugurated the grand event amid festivity and enthusiasm. He flagged off the 52 foreign participants and hundreds of local runners from the Punjab stadium where the runners started the marathon and went around various parts of the city before returning to the same point for a finish. After having a few laps inside the stadium the runners took the Ferorzepur road, Lahore canal, the mall, lower mall reaching Minar-e-Pakistan then taking a u-turn from there to take the same route to finish inside the stadium. In an interview taped Sunday for broadcast on CNN's ``Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer,'' Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that Pakistan was aggressively fighting terrorism and committed to hunting down al-Qaida elements. ``Any doubts about Pakistan's commitment to fighting terrorism, we totally reject,'' Aziz said. Pakistan setting up Disaster Management Agency to handle natural calamities: PM ISLAMABAD, Jan 14 (APP): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Sunday said Pakistan is setting up an independent Disaster Management Agency to tackle the situation in case of natural calamities like October 2005 earthquake. Addressing the concluding session of International Conference on Disaster Management here at Convention Center, the Prime Minister said Pakistan tackled the October 2005 earthquake with the help of national and international NGOs and world community. The Prime Minister said that on the recommendation of Pakistan, the United Nation has also set up Disaster Relief Fund with a trust fund of dollars 250 million.
