Sidhu granted bail by SC

NEW DELHI, Jan 12: India's Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to a former Test cricketer and Member of Parliament who surrendered overnight for killing a man in a road rage outburst in 1988, a report said.

Supreme Court Judge G.P. Mathur directed the convicted Navjot Singh Sidhu to post bond of 25,000 rupees (550 dollars) cash and a surety of an equal amount, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

Sidhu surrendered before the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday in line with orders of the Supreme Court and was arrested and sent to prison, court officials from Chandigarh said.

Sidhu was convicted last month of a charge similar to manslaughter and sentenced to three years in prison, but was released on temporary bail by the same court.
