Police probe break-in at Jayasuriya’s home

COLOMBO, Jan 12: Sri Lankan police were on Friday investigating a break-in at batting star Sanath Jayasuriya's home while he was in New Zealand, a spokesman said. Police in the Colombo suburb of Boralesgamuva said nothing appeared to be missing from Jayasuriya's home although there were signs of a break-in.

“They have entered from a side door and had obviously looked for expensive items like jewellery,” a police official said, adding that no arrests had been made.

He said the incident occurred on Tuesday before Jayasuriya's return from New Zealand. His wife Sandra and three children were away at the time of the incident, the police said.

Sri Lanka were recently in New Zealand for two Tests and five One-day Internationals.

Jayasuriya is the only Sri Lankan to have completed 10,000 runs in one-day cricket. He has also scored 6,791 runs in 107 Tests with 14 centuries. –AFP
