ISLAMABAD, Jan 12: Former Test all-rounder Azhar Mahmood showed form with a five-wicket haul as Islamabad gained upper hand against Quetta on the first day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Silver League match at the Diamond Cricket Ground on Friday.
Azhar, overlooked from Pakistan’s list of 30 for the World Cup, captured 5-45 with his medium-pacers as Quetta, deciding to bat after winning the toss, were shot out for 161 in 41.1 overs.
Islamabad then finished the day on 185-3 in 34.3 overs to gain a 24-run lead on the first innings.
With the sole exception of Shoaib Khan, who hit 86 with 15 fours, no other Quetta batsman managed to get going.
For Islamabad, Atif Ashraf top-scored with 76 with 13 hits to the fence while Afaq Rahim made 47.
