FAISALABAD, Jan 12: Two candidates will vie for the slot of district bar association president here on Saturday (today). Tanveer Randhawa and Nasir Ali Goraya are the candidates for the president seat while Jamshed Gul, Ishfaq Awan and Touqeer Sarwar will contest for the secretary-general slot.
Three candidates — Shafiq Taj, Amjad Sheikh and Muhammad Afzal Anwar have submitted their papers for the slot of vice-president while Nadeem Ahmed Saleem and Muhammad Sohail Majeed will contest for the joint secretary seat. Besides, 14 advocates are in the run for the executive member seats.
Around 1,700 lawyers will exercise their right of vote while a 10-member executive body of the bar association has already been elected unopposed. Those elected are: Hashmat Barkat, Rashid Mahmood Gul, Tahir Mahmood, Ghulam Mohiyuddin, Fawad Akhtar, Muhammad Ajmal Adil, Rashid Hameed, Saddiqul Hassnat, Ramzan Khan and Yasin Badar.
Zahid Nazir has also been elected unopposed as auditor and Mushtaq Ahmed Malik as library secretary.
Election board chairman Muhammad Younis announced the results of office bearers elected unopposed.
DBA president Talib Hussain Chattha, Punjab Bar Council members Arshad Ali Warraich and Akram Khaksar and lawyers wing of political parties are backing Tanveer Randhawa. The latter had been the PBC vice-chairman.
Nasir Goraya was also the candidate for the president slot in the last election, but was defeated by Talib Hussain Chattha.
TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed while four constables sustained injuries in different road accidents on Friday
Reports said that bicyclists Sharafat Ali of Chak 76-RB and Sohail Ahmed Mughal of Shahkot were killed when they were hit by a trailer in the limits of Khurrianwala police station. The driver managed his escape.
In another accident near Pansra, a speeding police van overturned. Consequently, constables — Inamullah, Yousaf, Saifullah and Zamirul Hassan received injuries. They were admitted to hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
