GUJAR KHAN, Jan 12: Police registered a case against a group of transporters on Friday on the charge of harassing students for the last two days. According to college sources, a group of transporters armed with Kalashnikovs, said to be backed by some influential people had beaten up a number of students after kidnapping them from a bus stop.

This had been going on for the last two days but the local police were reluctant to register a case, ignoring complaints of aggrieved students.

A delegation of local elders angry at the callous attitude of the local police, brought the issue to the attention of DPO Saud Aziz and SP Rural Rawalpindi Inayatullah Farooq who took serious notice of the highhandedness of the local police and ordered immediate registration of the FIR.

On Friday, Gujar Khan police were forced to register case against the transporters. Consequently, police vans were deputed to patrol outside the private college as well as the Government College.—Correspondent
