KARACHI: Botched bank robbery: police guard shot, wounded

KARACHI, Jan 9: A police guard was critically wounded while foiling a bank robbery near Lasbela here on Tuesday.

The police said Head Constable Farooq was on guard duty outside the Soneri Bank branch near Lasbela. He noticed some suspicious looking men entering the bank. When he tried to question them, they opened fire.

Farooq suffered a bullet wound in his head while two pedestrians, Sabiha and Saleem also suffered injuries. The criminals escaped in their getaway vehicle.

KILLED: A 55 year old man was killed in Korangi area on Tuesday. His body was found in a park with a single bullet wound. The victim could not be immediately identified. The body was sent to Jinnah hospital for postmortem. Later it was sent to the Edhi morgue for identification.

FIRE: Fire broke out in a shop in New Karachi destroying several motorcycles parked inside the shop, police said. A goat tied in the shop also died in the blaze, police said.

A duty officer of New Karachi Industrial area police station said the complainant, Mushtaq Ismail told police that early Tuesday morning fire out broke out in his shop located in the premises of his house.

By the time he reached the shop almost 10 motorcycles were gutted and a goat present in the shop was killed.
