KARACHI, Jan 9: The Sindh Coal Authority (SCA) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sindh Carbon Energy Ltd for ascertaining commercial availability of coal in Khorewah, District Badin and for construction /commissioning and operation Mine Mouth coal-fired power plant with 150MW capacity.
The MoU was signed at the Chief Minister’s House by SCA Director-General Syed Abbas Ali Shah and chairman of Sindh Koela Ltd Allah Bux Khan Magsi, Shahrukh Khan and Anthony Charles R. Scutt of Oracle Coal Fields PLC. Minister for Mines and Mineral Development Irfanullah Khan Marwat, Secretary Abdul Hamid Akhund, Director-General Syed Sohail Akbar Shah and representatives of the SKL, and OCF were also present.
Under the MoU, the SCA will allocate an area of 100 sq-km to them for a period of 18 months to carry out feasibility study, undertake development of identified coal mines, construction, commissioning and operation of the power plant. The demarcation of the coalfield area will be done by a joint survey team comprising technical personnel of SCE, SCA, and the mines and mineral and revenue departments.
