KARACHI, Jan 5: An illegal factory where harmful potato chips were being prepared and marketed was sealed off in UC 11 of Gulshan Town on Friday. Town Nazim Mohammad Wasay Jalil, accompanied by Naib Nazim Shoaib Akhter, TO Infrastructure, Mubin Siddiqi, DTO Land Mahmood Siddiqi, DTO B&R Ram Chand, DTO Sanitation Nafees Khan, UC Nazim Muhibuddin Fatimi, police and other officials visited the area on Friday.

Local residents informed them that the factory was being operated on the premises of a madressah, located in Commissioner’s Society. They also complained that the factory operators had been disposing of the waste in bulk into the sewerage lines causing blockade and ultimate trouble to the area people.

The nazim asked DTO Land to get the illegal encroachments between Samama Shopping Centre and Khyber Cloth Market removed, and asked the caretakers of the madressah to dismantle the factory. He also ordered construction of a new sewerage line behind the markets.

During his visit to Commissioner’s Society, he found roads and sewerage system in a dilapidated condition whereas the local residents had installed illegal water connection from the main conduit. The nazim ordered removal of all such connections.—PPI
