Euro plunges

LONDON, Jan 5: The European single currency sank against the dollar on Friday to a six-week low after data revealed that US employers added a better-than-expected 167,000 new jobs in December. Following the announcement, the euro slid to $1.3004 -- the lowest point since November 24. During the course of 2006, the euro had gained 11.4 per cent against the dollar, lifted by expectations that the European Central Bank would continue to hike interest rates during 2007, according to economists.—AFP
